We would like to inform you about the recent acquisition of VMware by Broadcom and its potential implications for the sector. Whilst there will be implications for education, these are not yet clear. Virtue Technologies are part of conversations with Broadcom and our partners, and we will update you as soon as more information is released.
The current situation is as follows:
- Academic Licensing is being removed
- Essentials Plus License bundle will remain
- New pricing is not yet available but imminent
- New pricing models will be based on cores, not CPUs
Whilst educational discounts will no longer exist, as yet we have no reason to believe that the new pricing structure will be uneconomical to the education sector. We are, however, working on alternative strategies should cost changes become an issue for our customers.
