Education AI: Big Risks and Bigger Benefits

Posted

AI isn’t coming to schools, it’s already here, sitting in staffrooms, admin offices and IT departments, quietly rewriting how work gets done. Adoption is near-universal, with staff leaning on mainstream tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini. The payoff is immediate with reclaimed time for
staff, faster drafting, improved communications and more engaging resources.

But governance is not keeping pace. Large numbers of staff don’t know whether a policy exists, nearly half report no training and checking of AI generated content is inconsistent.

This gap creates predictable risk with inaccuracies, bias, safeguarding issues, copyright problems and data protection exposure.
