Virtue broke down the work into three phases, explaining when likely downtimes would be, planning them to coincide with school holidays. As well as installing new servers and upgrading others, Virtue improved data storage and reconfigured all the workstations for smooth running.

For Steve, one of the biggest benefits of Virtue’s work was the remote support contract, which means that in 90% of cases Virtue don’t need to come in to the school to fix problems.

Industry-spec
The entire installation took three months, with the bulk of the work carried out during the summer holidays of 2006. “I knew they would come up with the goods,” said Steve. “They use industry-spec guys and they have a dedicated education team.” Steve is satisfied that he now has a future-proofed network that he can build on. “Because it’s reliable, I can also get my members of staff to use it,” he said.

“As well as reliability, the main educational benefit has been the sheer speed. We no longer have to wait an age for downloads. And we didn’t have remote access before, and now we do, which is wonderful. Security and back-up are bob-on, too.”
